Cats unlike dogs, are strict carnivores and they depend on the intake of protein-rich food. Protein metabolism leads to a large amount of waste product, including uraemic toxins, which are typically excreted by the kidneys.
Porus® One has been developed to support kidney health.
Porus® One contains a substance called Renaltec®. It works by binding to uraemic precursors that are produced by bacteria in the intestines of cats. Normally uraemic precursors are absorbed by the intestines and are broken down in the liver to form uraemic toxins (such as indoxyl sulfate and para-cresyl sulfate). Uraemic toxins are then eliminated by the kidneys. In chronic kidney disease, the removal of uraemic toxins from the blood is impaired, resulting in the accumulation of these toxins.
Porus® One binds to the precursors of uraemic toxins in the cat intestine so that they cannot be absorbed or enter the bloodstream. The precursors are instead eliminated via the faeces. Binding of these precursors reduces the build up of damaging toxins in the blood which results from impaired kidney function in cats.
